climate
Lombok lies just south of the equator and has a tropical monsoon climate with two seasons: dry (May to September) and wet (October to March) with the rainy season characterized by brief afternoon rain showers. Daytime temperatures average 80F to 90F (27C to 32C) along the west coast, with hotter temperatures inland and a more breezy climate between July and September.
language
Bahasa Indonesia and the local Sasak language are the two languages most spoken in Lombok. English is taught as a second language in all schools and is widely spoken in the coastal tourist areas. Generally, wherever you travel, no matter how remote, you will find someone who speaks some English.
currency
The national currency is the Rupiah. Currency exchange offices and ATMs are available in the Senggigi area.
getting to Lombok
The most common way to get to Lombok is via Bali or Jakarta. From Bali, there are three main ways to reach Lombok: by taking one of the daily 30 minute flights, by high speed ferry or by public ferry. There are several flights per day between Lombok and Jakarta. The main carriers are Garuda Indonesia and Lion Air. There are also direct flights to Lombok from Singapore with Silk Air, which makes it easy to combine a trip to Lombok with a journey through other areas in Asia. For visa requirements it is best to check the Indonesian embassy website for a complete list of visa free and visa on arrival countries. However, do make sure your passport has a minimum of 6 months validity from the date of entrance into Indonesia.
